Pottery Painting Techniques: Painting A Leaf With Acrylics

STEP SIX: (Above) Add a teal green to get some interesting color combinations, and depth. Even though you think you are completely covering colors, you are adding to the rich hues and subtly changing the top colors.

STEP SEVEN: (Above) In the upper middle close to the brighter blue, we are going to add contrast by using a medium green. MAKE SURE IT IS A DARKER COLOR THAN THAT LIGHT GREEN (the area right under where you are about to add the medium green)

STEP EIGHT: (Above) Let's add some of that same color on the bottom near the stem. Notice I've covered up some of the blue that was on the bottom edge, and covered up/softened part of the darker green coming out of the stem.

STEP NINE: (Above) Time for some lemon lime to jazz things up!

STEP TEN: (Above) Darken your tip. Continue to next page, you're halfway done! (You may also wish to leave the top part of the leaf alone at this stage, and only work on that underneath side (done in base coat olive green.) We will be adding more colors back to the topside (darker, olive greenish, etc) but compare this stage with the final picture (on the top in the left column) to see which you prefer.
